Goldsky vs Alchemy
Last updated
A practical comparison of RPC access, wallet data, indexing, and streaming, including how to use Goldsky and Alchemy together.
Goldsky vs Alchemy: the verdict
Alchemy is a JSON-RPC node provider with add-on Data and Wallet APIs. It fits if you need WebSocket subscriptions. It also fits if you already run Alchemy-specific tooling like Account Kit or the Gas Manager and don’t want to change your RPC setup.
Goldsky fits if you want flat per-request pricing for RPC and wallet data with Edge RPC and Feeds. It also fits if you want to keep Alchemy and automatically optimize your RPC calls with Boost, or if you run subgraphs or stream onchain data into your own database.
Alchemy discontinued its own subgraph product in December 2025 and named Goldsky as its migration partner.[2]
Compare products, pricing, and platform capabilities
Alchemy is a JSON-RPC node provider with add-on Data and Wallet APIs. Goldsky answers with three products: Edge RPC replaces raw RPC calls, Boost is an RPC CDN in front of Alchemy, and Feeds returns wallet balances and transfers. Goldsky also runs Subgraphs and Turbo pipelines.
| Feature | Alchemy | Goldsky |
|---|---|---|
| RPC and cost control | ||
| Core RPC API | Advantage: Node API: JSON-RPC plus WebSockets[3] | Edge RPC: JSON-RPC over HTTPS, 8+ regions, automatic failover[9] |
| RPC pricing model | 10 to 60 compute units per call, $0.525 per million[3][4] | Advantage: $5 per million requests, every method priced the same[9] |
| RPC CDN | No equivalent product. Every request bills under your plan | Advantage: Boost serves eligible reads from Goldsky and forwards the rest to Alchemy. Free for a limited time[14] |
| Wallet data | ||
| Wallet balances and transfers | Token API, Transfers API, and Portfolio API, each with its own compute unit cost[6] | Feeds: Balances and Transfers endpoints across 8 chains[15] |
| Wallet data pricing | Compute units per call, higher for Portfolio transfers across chains[4] | Advantage: $0.35 per 1,000 requests, same price for every endpoint and chain count[16] |
| Indexing and streaming | ||
| Subgraph / GraphQL indexing | Alchemy Subgraphs was sunset on December 8, 2025. Goldsky was its migration partner[2] | Advantage: Managed Subgraphs service, backwards-compatible with graph-node[18] |
| Streaming data pipelines | Webhooks: real-time notifications for address activity, NFT activity, and custom onchain events[8] | Turbo: sinks include PostgreSQL, ClickHouse, MySQL, Kafka, S3, SQS, EventBridge, Pub/Sub, S2, and webhook sinks;[20] pipelines start in under 5 seconds[19] |
| Chain coverage | ||
| Supported chains | 100+ chains (Node API)[5] | Advantage: 150+ chains, 270+ networks[17] |

RPC access: Edge RPC vs Alchemy Node API
Edge RPC serves JSON-RPC requests for EVM networks from 8+ regions with sub-100ms latency.[9] Automatic failover and cross-validation across multiple providers keep results accurate during an outage.[10]
- Edge RPC pricing: $5 per million requests, at the same rate for every method, with no multiplier to calculate.[9]
- Alchemy Node API pricing: each method costs its own number of compute units, from 10 for
eth_blockNumberto 60 foreth_getLogs.[4] After the free tier, Pay As You Go costs $0.525 per million compute units.[3] - Where Alchemy goes further: WebSocket subscriptions, which Edge RPC doesn’t serve.[3][9]
- Trace and Debug methods: both providers offer them.[3][9]
Optimize your Alchemy RPC with Boost
Boost is an RPC CDN in front of your existing RPC provider. It works with Alchemy, and with any other provider you already use.[11] You can run both together, keeping Alchemy for what only Alchemy does while Boost answers the reads it can.
- What Boost answers: eligible historical and tip-of-chain reads, from Goldsky’s indexed data.[11]
- What stays on Alchemy: everything else, including WebSocket subscriptions, traces, and state reads like
eth_callandeth_getBalance.[11][12] Your Alchemy account and tooling stay in place. - Setup: change one endpoint URL, with no other code changes and no provider switch.[13]
- Pricing: Boost is free for a limited time, with no charge for served or forwarded requests. You keep paying Alchemy only for the requests Boost can’t answer.[14][16]
- Visibility: every response carries an
x-cacheheader showing whether Boost served it or forwarded it.[12]
Wallet data: Feeds vs Alchemy’s Data APIs
Feeds is a REST API that returns a wallet’s balances and transfers across 8 chains, at $0.35 per 1,000 requests with no extra charge for more chains or a different endpoint.[15][16]
Alchemy covers the same ground with three separate products:
- Token API: returns balances.
- Transfers API: returns transfer history.
- Portfolio API: returns multi-chain wallet views.[6]
Each product bills in compute units, and the Portfolio API’s wallet transfers endpoint charges more compute units for every chain you add.[4] Its token endpoint also caps each request at 2 wallet addresses and 5 networks.[7]
If you need onchain automation instead of only reads, we also offer Compose.
Indexing and streaming
- Subgraphs: Alchemy discontinued its subgraph product on December 8, 2025.[1] Goldsky was its migration partner, and Goldsky Subgraphs is the active, backwards-compatible managed service.[2][18]
- Alchemy Webhooks: real-time notifications for address activity, NFT activity, and custom onchain events.[8]
- Goldsky Turbo pipelines: Turbo pipelines write to PostgreSQL, ClickHouse, MySQL, Kafka, S3, SQS, EventBridge, Google Cloud Pub/Sub, S2, or a webhook.[20] Pipeline startups take under 5 seconds.[19]
Chain support
- Goldsky: 150+ chains across 270+ networks for indexing and streaming.[17]
- Alchemy: lists access to 100+ chains for its Node API.[5]
Goldsky’s current chain list is on the chains page.
Pricing
| Feature | Alchemy | Goldsky |
|---|---|---|
| Free tier | 30 million compute units a month, 300 compute units per second of throughput[3] | Starter plan, $100 credit, no card required[16] |
| Billing model | Pay As You Go on compute units, or an enterprise plan[3] | Usage-based on the Scale plan, or an enterprise contract[16] |
| RPC pricing | 10 to 60 compute units per call, $0.525 per million[3][4] | $5 per million requests, every method priced the same[9] |
| RPC CDN | No equivalent product. Every request bills under your plan | Boost is free for a limited time, with no charge for served or forwarded requests[14] |
| Wallet data pricing | Compute units per call. Portfolio transfers cost more for each added chain[4] | $0.35 per 1,000 requests, same price for every endpoint and chain count[15] |

When to choose Goldsky, and when to choose Alchemy
Choose Alchemy if:
- You rely on Alchemy-specific wallet or account-abstraction tooling, like Account Kit or the Gas Manager, already in production
- You need WebSocket subscriptions on every request
- You don’t want to change your current RPC setup
Choose Goldsky if:
- You want flat per-request RPC pricing instead of compute units with method multipliers
- You want to keep Alchemy and automatically optimize your RPC calls with Boost
- You want wallet balances and transfers at one flat price instead of per-endpoint compute units
- You run subgraphs and need a provider that still operates one
- You want to stream onchain data into your own database with Turbo pipelines
Migrate a subgraph from Alchemy in three steps
If you have an existing subgraph deployed on Alchemy, install and authenticate the CLI. Then deploy it to Goldsky using its IPFS deployment hash.[21]
1. Install the CLI
$curl https://goldsky.com | sh2. Authenticate
$goldsky login3. Migrate your subgraph from Alchemy
$goldsky subgraph deploy my-subgraph/v1 --from-ipfs-hash <ALCHEMY_IPFS_HASH> --ipfs-gateway https://ipfs.satsuma.xyz
