Goldsky vs Quicknode

Last updated

A practical comparison of RPC access, cost control, and wallet data, plus subgraph indexing and streaming pipelines, for blockchain infrastructure.

Goldsky vs Quicknode: the verdict

Quicknode is a JSON-RPC node provider with Core RPC, a Streams data pipeline product, and a Token and NFT API add-on. It supports 76 chains across 132 networks.[1]

Goldsky answers with Edge RPC for JSON-RPC access and Boost to automatically optimize your existing RPC endpoint.[9][13] Feeds prices wallet balances and transfers in USD.[15] Goldsky also offers Subgraphs for managed GraphQL indexing.[17]

Teams that keep Quicknode Marketplace add-ons, like IPFS pinning or Solana gRPC streaming, or that need Core RPC’s WebSocket subscriptions, find no direct Goldsky equivalent. Teams that want flat per-method RPC pricing or an RPC CDN in front of Quicknode find no direct Quicknode equivalent. Teams that want wallet data priced in USD get it from Feeds, since Quicknode’s Token and NFT API returns balances without USD pricing.[5]

Migrate in 3 steps

RPC access: Edge RPC vs Quicknode Core RPC

Quicknode’s Core RPC API offers global traffic routing with automatic regional failover across every supported chain.[3] Edge RPC matches that with JSON-RPC access across 8+ regions, automatic failover across providers, and cross-validation that blocks stale or incorrect data.[9]

  • Edge RPC pricing: $5 per million requests, at the same rate for every method.[9]
  • Quicknode pricing: usage is measured in API credits, with per-method multipliers.[2]

Optimize your Quicknode RPC with Boost

Boost is an RPC CDN in front of your existing RPC provider. It works with Quicknode, and with any other provider you already use.[11] You can run both together, keeping Quicknode for what only Quicknode does while Boost answers the reads it can.

  • What Boost answers: eligible historical and tip-of-chain reads, from Goldsky’s indexed data.[11]
  • What stays on Quicknode: everything else, including WebSocket subscriptions, traces, and state reads like eth_call and eth_getBalance.[11][12] Your Quicknode account and Marketplace add-ons stay in place.
  • Setup: change one endpoint URL, with no other code changes and no provider switch.[13]
  • Pricing: Boost is free for a limited time, with no charge for served or forwarded requests. Quicknode only bills the calls Boost can’t serve.[14]
  • Visibility: every response carries an x-cache header showing whether Boost served it or forwarded it.[12]

If your team needs onchain automation beyond reads and RPC, Goldsky also offers Compose.

Wallet balances and transfers

Quicknode’s Token and NFT API add-on returns ERC-20 balances and transfers for one wallet through qn_getWalletTokenBalance and qn_getWalletTokenTransactions, with no USD pricing in the response.[5] The bundle is a separate add-on, and its methods bill at 2x the chain’s base API-credit rate.[6]

Feeds returns a wallet’s balances and transfers with USD values:

  • GET /balances: native and ERC-20 balances, with USD values and a wallet total.[15]
  • GET /transfers: native and ERC-20 transfers newest first, with token metadata and the USD value at transfer time.[15]

Both endpoints cover 8 chains and cost $0.35 per 1,000 requests, with no per-endpoint or per-chain surcharge.[15]

Indexing and streaming

  • Quicknode Streams: delivers raw or filtered blockchain data to webhooks, S3, PostgreSQL, Azure Blob, and Kafka, with server-side Go or JavaScript filters.[7] Quicknode doesn’t publish a managed GraphQL subgraph product.
  • Goldsky Subgraphs: managed, backwards-compatible subgraph indexing built on graph-node.[17]
  • Goldsky Turbo pipelines: write to PostgreSQL, ClickHouse, MySQL, Kafka, S3, SQS, EventBridge, Google Cloud Pub/Sub, S2, or a webhook.[19] Pipeline startups take under 5 seconds.[18]

Chain support

  • Goldsky: 150+ chains across 270+ networks for indexing and streaming.[16]
  • Quicknode: 76 chains across 132 networks.[1] Some Quicknode chains carry an extra “Select Access” monthly fee.[1]

When to choose Goldsky, and when to choose Quicknode

Choose Quicknode if:

  • You want to keep Quicknode Marketplace add-ons like IPFS pinning or Solana gRPC streaming
  • You already pay for a Quicknode plan and only need more request-per-second headroom
  • You don’t need wallet balance or transfer data priced in USD

Choose Goldsky if:

  • You want flat RPC pricing, the same for every method, instead of Quicknode credit multipliers
  • You want to keep Quicknode and add Boost, an RPC CDN in front of it that is free for a limited time
  • You need wallet balances and transfers with USD values, not just raw token data
  • You also want GraphQL subgraph indexing, since Quicknode has no subgraph product

Migrate from Quicknode in three steps

When you’re ready to switch RPC providers, get an Edge RPC endpoint and point your existing JSON-RPC client at it with no code changes.[10] Then recreate a Quicknode Stream as a Turbo pipeline.[20]

  1. 1. Get your Edge RPC endpoint

    https://edge.goldsky.com/standard/evm/{chainId}?key={your-key}
  2. 2. Send a test request to your endpoint

    $ curl https://edge.goldsky.com/standard/evm/1?key=demo -X POST -H "Content-Type: application/json" -d '{"jsonrpc":"2.0","method":"eth_blockNumber","params":[],"id":1}'
  3. 3. Recreate a Quicknode Stream as a Turbo pipeline

    $ goldsky turbo apply my-pipeline.yaml
